Daryl Hannah, born on December 3, 1960 in Illinois, Chicago, grew up loving movies. She attended Francis W. Parker School, the Latin School of Chicago and the University of Southern California. By age 18, Daryl landed her first film appearance in the 1978 Brian De Palma horror “The Fury.” However, it was only until she was cast in the 1982 sci-fi film “Blade Runner,” where she played an acrobat and worked on her own stunts did Hannah received her big break. Also in 1982, Daryl Hannah starred in the romance film “Summer Lovers,” where she played Cathy Featherstone.
In 1984, Daryl Hannah was cast in a fantasy film by Ron Howard entitled “Splash.” Playing alongside Tom Hanks, Hannah became an A-list actress overnight after she received a Saturn Award for “Best Actress”. By late 1980s, Daryl has starred in several successful films, such as the 1984 Mickey Rourke film “The Pope of Greenwich Village,” 1986 Academy Award-winning “Wall Street,” the 1987 movie “Roxanne,” and the 1989 off-Broadway movie adaptation “Steel Magnolias.”
In 1993, Daryl appeared in the comedy flick “Grumpy Old Men,” playing Jack Lemmon’s daughter. The following year, Daryl starred in the hit film “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.” Hannah then joined the 1995 movie “The Tie That Binds,” wherein she played the homicidal sociopath Leann Netherwood. Also in 1995, Daryl was dubbed as one of the “100 Sexiest Stars in Film History” by Empire Magazine. Through the late 1990s, Daryl Hannah has appeared in several films, including “Two Much,” “The Real Blonde,” “My Favorite Martian,” “Speedway Junky,” and “Diplomatic Siege.”
Although Daryl Hannah appeared in several films in the early 2000, such as “Dancing at the Blue Iguana,” “Silver City,” and “Northfork,” it was only until 2003 did she receive one of her most notable roles in the Quentin Tarantino series “Kill Bill Volume 1” and “Kill Bill Volume 2.” In the two-part film, Hannah played the role of a one-eyed assassin named Elle Driver, which won her the “Best Supporting Actress” Saturn Award in 2004 and MTV’s “Best Fight” Award in 2005.
Aside from her awards from the entertainment industry, Daryl Hannah has also been honored with several recognitions for her social and environmental activities. She has received an “Influencer of the Year Award” from the National Biodiesel Board and an “Ongoing Commitment Award” from the Environmental Media Awards, both of which she received in 2004. In 2006, Hannah received an Artivist Awards for “Environmental Preservation” and a Water Quality Award for “Environmental Activism.”
